Century City, Los Angeles
Century City has become known in international circles for
business, shopping, dining, theatergoing, guest accommodations and luxury living. This
newly acquired reputation is quite a long way since its reputation back in 1958 when it
was referred to as a mere backlot for the 20th Century Fox film studio.
Located between Beverly Hills and Westwood, Century Citys numerous modern high-rises
have made it into a kind of mini-metropolis or second downtown Los Angeles. There are an
amazing 10 million square feet of office space within its 175 acres. The Plaza Towers are
an example of the citys strong, clean architecture. More than 60% of the land in
Century City is landscaped but not built upon, making the area a refreshing, open-air
atmosphere. There is said to be a compelling cleanliness about Century City that
bespeaks its well-planned layout, something most Los Angeles neighborhoods missed out on
with their patchwork designs.
While the Disney Corporation moved its West Coast ABC headquarters to Burbank, all other
major entertainment-related institutions have kept their headquarters here. These include
the headquarters for Fox, and the Shubert Theatre, which presents hit Broadway shows.
There are also multiplex cinemas, nightclubs and the Century City Shopping Centre and
Marketplace. Dozen of upscale and trendy restaurants, offer a selection of tastes and
cuisines. . It is said that Century City is home of the valet parking.
Recently, Santa Monica Boulevard was widened, making the ingress/egress to and from The
condo model in Century City is one of urban intensification, rather than suburban
sprawl, it is the condominium that dominates housing. Century City is the area that
you will find that young entertainment industry executive or other young professional with
the trendy penthouse Century City condo in walking distance of the office or studio?
