| "Casa
Loma" The Casa Loma area of Toronto is really
the western boundary of the citys number one residential area. Ive talked
about the St. Clair / Yonge Street corridor, which offers the most prestigious residential
condo communities in the city.
The Casa Loma area is not known for high density condos as
it comprises many of the city most prestigious Forest Hill estates and homes. There are a
few estates have been modified to accommodate three or four private "units"
however, high-rise condos are left to the main artery of St. Clair and north a few blocks.
The area is known for many of the best townhome communities
that the city has to offer. On the north east corner of Spadina Rd. at St. Clair are spacious
townhomes built about four years ago and directly across the street from the castle
sits a new community of 10 townhomes priced in the $1,000,000 range.
At the east end of the park forming the southeast corner of
Spadina and St. Clair are another excellent collection of townhomes again, priced
in the Million Dollar range. These large and fully appointed townhomes are large with one
row overlooking the park and the other facing Russell Hill Road (one of the major Forest
Hill streets).
The area itself is lush parkland offering nature walks and
trees, trees, trees. Just below the castle you can find large quality townhomes in
the $700,000 to $900,000 price range. The majority of homes in the area are large upscale
residences with quiet traffic controlled streets where you will see families walking and
playing amidst some of the most splendid architecture in the city.
The streetcar runs on St. Clair giving area residents great
public transit access to downtown but the majority of residents drive enjoying a fifteen
minute drive to the heart of the financial district. An application for zone change for a
new high-rise has recently been registered for a site on Spadina just south of St. Clair.
It is not certain whether this development will be condo or apartment (apartment
development is coming back in a major way in Toronto with Minto building a new
high-rise in Yorkville, and another major high-rise rental building across from Tridels
Icon downtown).
